Los Angeles Ratha Yatra
(Festival of the Chariots) Sunday August 3rd
(No regular Tucson Sunday festival, but feast served at 7:00 pm)
The LA Times said “it is the biggest religious festival west of the Mississippi”. The New York Times
called it “a spiritual Barnum and Bailey's circus”. With over 50 different tents, booths and 3-D displays,
two stages with all-day live entertainment, and every type of vegetarian snack imaginable, the
Los Angeles Ratha Yatra is a wonderful experience for the whole family. There is even an area set
aside for kids with puppet shows,
face painting, arts and crafts, etc.
The LA Times calculates that close to 200,000 people see the carts as they roll down the board-walk
along Venice Beach. The parade starts at 10 am, is about an hour long and ends at the Venice Beach
Pavilion, where the stages and
displays are set up. The whole show goes on until 5:30 pm.
For more information and driving
directions, see the festival web site.
If you would like to join our Tucson devotees on our visit to Los Angeles, please see the printed
posters at Govinda's or click here.

“The real cause of one's difficulties in the
hard struggle for life may be found in one's forgetfulness
of
his relationship with the Supreme Lord. When a man is fully conscious of his
relationship
with
Krishna, he is actually a liberated soul, although he may be in the material
tabernacle.”
